Thunderstorm clouds over a landscape during Pakistan's October weather forecastThe PMD forecasts isolated rain and thunderstorms in parts of northern and central Pakistan.

ISLAMABAD, October 14, 2026

Rain and thunderstorms are expected in parts of Pakistan on Wednesday, October 14, with the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) forecasting unsettled conditions across Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Islamabad, parts of Punjab, Kashmir and Gilgit-Baltistan. Isolated hailstorms are also possible, while most other areas are expected to remain dry.

According to the PMD’s weekly weather outlook issued on October 13, a westerly weather system is affecting upper and central parts of the country. The forecast identifies several areas where rain, strong winds and thunderstorms may develop, although the conditions are not expected to affect every location equally.

Which areas could receive rain?

The PMD has identified the following regions as potential areas for rain and thunderstorms:

  • Khyber Pakhtunkhwa: Areas including Peshawar, Swat, Chitral, Abbottabad, Mansehra, Mardan, Kohat and Bannu.
  • Punjab and Islamabad: The Potohar region, including Rawalpindi, Attock, Chakwal and Jhelum, along with Lahore, Gujranwala, Sialkot, Faisalabad and other parts of upper and central Punjab.
  • Kashmir and Gilgit-Baltistan: Selected locations may experience rain, gusty winds and isolated hailstorms.

The forecast does not mean every listed district will receive rain. Conditions may vary locally, and the PMD describes the expected weather as occurring in affected areas rather than uniformly across the regions.

What about Sindh and Karachi?

Sindh is not among the main areas highlighted in the PMD’s October 14 thunderstorm outlook. The department’s October 9 advisory said mainly hot and dry weather was likely to continue across Sindh, while the October 13 weekly outlook also indicated dry conditions across most areas outside the northern and central regions.

Residents of Karachi and other parts of Sindh should therefore check their latest local forecast rather than assume that the thunderstorm trend applies throughout Pakistan.

Hailstorms and strong winds could pose local risks

The PMD has warned that strong winds, lightning and hailstorms can damage vulnerable structures, including weak roofs and walls, electricity poles, billboards, vehicles and solar panels. Hail may also damage standing crops in parts of Punjab and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.

Residents in areas expecting storms should monitor official weather updates and take reasonable precautions around exposed structures and outdoor activities. Farmers should also consider local forecasts when planning fieldwork.

How long could the unsettled weather last?

The PMD’s October 13 weekly outlook indicates that isolated rain and thunderstorms could continue on Thursday, October 15, in parts of upper Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, northeastern Punjab, Gilgit-Baltistan and Kashmir. Mainly dry weather is expected across much of the country on Friday, October 16.

The outlook is a forecast, not confirmation that rain or thunderstorms have already occurred in each named location. Residents should consult the latest district-level updates for changes in timing or intensity.
