Police in Gurugram have arrested Kalyan Bainsla in connection with a viral road incident in which a car struck a female motorcyclist on Golf Course Road, while investigators have added an attempt-to-murder charge to the case following an examination of CCTV footage. Bainsla was arrested in Rajasthan, according to police and multiple reports.

The incident happened on Sunday on Gurugram’s Golf Course Road as Chauhan was riding with a group of motorcyclists. Video recorded by a camera mounted on her motorcycle appeared to show a white Maruti Suzuki Ciaz moving alongside her bike before striking it. Chauhan was thrown onto the road, while the motorcycle slid away and the car continued from the scene.
The footage was later posted on social media and rapidly circulated online, prompting Gurugram Police to take suo motu cognisance of the incident. An initial case was registered at Sector 56 police station under provisions concerning rash driving and acts endangering human life or personal safety.
Police subsequently added Section 109 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita after analysing CCTV footage from the area. The provision concerns attempt to murder and carries a potential sentence of up to 10 years. The decision represents a significant escalation from the original rash-driving allegations, although the charge remains an allegation to be tested through the criminal justice process.
The driver, identified as Bainsla, has disputed the suggestion that he intentionally struck Chauhan. In comments to the media before his arrest, he said a group of bikers had repeatedly overtaken his car and slowed down in front of him. He claimed he lost control near a U-turn while attempting to avoid a collision and said he left because he feared the riders might attack him and his relatives.
Chauhan has rejected that explanation. In a video posted after Bainsla’s comments, she said the footage showed the car following the riders and moving toward her motorcycle. She also questioned why the driver did not stop after the collision if, as he claimed, the incident had been accidental.
The vehicle involved was reportedly borrowed. Police sources cited by The Indian Express said the white Maruti Suzuki Ciaz belongs to an Army personnel posted in Assam and had been borrowed by Bainsla before the incident.
Chauhan sustained minor injuries in the crash, according to media reports. The incident has also prompted wider discussion about road safety and the experiences of women motorcyclists in and around Gurugram, although allegations made by either side about harassment, intoxication or intent have not all been independently established by police.
The immediate focus of the investigation is now the evidence surrounding the collision, including the available video and CCTV footage, the accounts of those involved and Chauhan’s formal statement. The arrest and upgraded charge do not by themselves establish guilt; that will ultimately be determined through the legal process.
