Sania Saeed has explained the thinking behind Beena’s decision to leave her home with another man in HUM TV’s drama Aap Ki Izzat, saying she would not judge the character for what she did after years of emotional neglect and a lack of agency. Saeed discussed Beena’s storyline during an appearance on the Heart to Haute podcast with Hassan Choudary.
Saeed, who plays Tabish’s mother in the drama, said Beena’s circumstances had left her with few tools to defend herself. She described the character as someone who had sacrificed her identity while trying to maintain her home and marriage.
“I would not judge Beena after what happened to her. That would be the worst thing,” Saeed said, according to Dawn Images. She questioned what resources Beena had been given to fight for herself, pointing to her lack of education, skills and time for herself.
In the drama, Beena is played by Urwa Hocane and is married to Tabish, portrayed by Ahsan Khan. Saeed’s character is Tabish’s mother, whose actions and attitudes contribute to the difficult environment Beena faces.
Saeed said Beena’s eventual departure was the result of the pressure placed on her over time. “You [Tabish and her in-laws] mentally made her reach a point where she runs away from home with another man,” she said.
The actor also connected Beena’s situation to broader social expectations surrounding marriage and family. She argued that women are often expected to carry the responsibility of keeping families together at the expense of their own dignity and self-respect.
“This obsession we have with keeping family together… this, invariably — whether we like it or not — keeps falling on the women,” Saeed said.
Saeed further argued that Beena might have left her marriage much earlier if she had been educated and equipped with greater independence. She urged parents to provide daughters with education, practical skills and confidence so they have more choices when facing difficult circumstances.
When asked whether Beena should return to Tabish, Saeed gave a direct answer: “No.” She said any possible reconciliation would require the couple to work hard and build their relationship again on new foundations rather than simply returning to the way things were.
Her comments add context to one of the drama’s most debated story developments. Rather than presenting Beena’s departure as an isolated decision, Saeed views it as the consequence of a longer period in which the character’s identity and self-worth were gradually eroded.
Saeed has also said that she initially hesitated to accept the role because she expected the drama to be emotionally demanding. She eventually agreed after director Saife Hasan persuaded her to take part.
